Under the Berne Convention — honoured in 181 countries including India, the US, and all of Europe — copyright in an original work belongs to its author the instant it is fixed in tangible form. The moment you type a scene heading or a line of dialogue on FilmScriptWriter, that work is legally yours. You do not need to register it. You do not need to notify us. It simply is yours.
FilmScriptWriter claims zero ownership over anything you write. We hold no licence — express, implied, or otherwise — to reproduce, distribute, adapt, sublicense, or exploit your scripts, characters, outlines, treatments, or any other creative content you produce using this platform. We are a tool. The work is yours.
No "work made for hire." Nothing in these terms creates a work-for-hire relationship between you and FilmScriptWriter. Content created on this platform is not produced within the scope of employment with us. All authorship rights vest exclusively in you, the writer.
No rights grab. We will never ask you to assign, waive, or transfer your copyright as a condition of using this platform — not now, not through a future update to these terms. Any such amendment would require your explicit, informed, written consent.
Moral rights. We acknowledge and respect moral rights in your work — including the right of attribution and the right of integrity — to the fullest extent recognised under applicable law. We will never falsely attribute authorship, and we will never distort or mutilate your work.
Your only obligations: that you are the original author or hold rights to any content you upload, and that you will not use FilmScriptWriter to infringe upon another creator's copyrighted work.
We will never use your scripts, characters, outlines, or any creative content to train, fine-tune, or improve any artificial intelligence or machine learning model — including any AI tools integrated into this platform. This applies to all current and future AI systems, whether operated by FilmScriptWriter directly or by any third-party provider we work with.
This commitment is aligned with the principles established by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) in their landmark 2023 Minimum Basic Agreement, the joint resolutions of the International Affiliation of Writers Guilds (IAWG) and the Federation of Screenwriters in Europe (FSE) — collectively representing over 67,000 professional writers worldwide — and the global push for AI legislation requiring explicit consent before any creative work is used as training data.
AI tools on this platform are assistive, not extractive. Any AI-powered features (scene suggestions, coverage, formatting assistance) are here to serve your creative process. They do not "remember" your work between sessions for training purposes. Your content passes through and is used only to generate your requested output — nothing more.
Transparency obligation. In the spirit of the WGA MBA standard, if any AI-generated or AI-assisted material is ever incorporated into platform-generated suggestions or outputs, that will be clearly disclosed within the feature itself. You will never receive AI-generated content without knowing it.
Third-party AI providers. Where AI features are powered by third-party models (e.g., large language models), we will only work with providers whose terms explicitly prohibit using API-submitted content for model training. We will publish a list of any such providers on request.
FilmScriptWriter is not an advertising business. We are not a data business. We are a screenwriting tool. Our only revenue comes from subscriptions. Your data exists to make the platform work for you — not to make you a product.
What we collect:
What we never do:
Right to erasure. You may request complete deletion of your account and all associated data — including every script and project file — at any time by emailing us directly. Requests are processed within 14 working days. We will confirm deletion in writing.
Data security. Scripts and project files are encrypted at rest and in transit. Access is restricted to authorised personnel only, and access logs are maintained. We will notify you within 72 hours of becoming aware of any breach that may affect your data.
You can export everything, at any time. All plans include the ability to export your scripts in standard formats (PDF, Final Draft .fdx, Fountain .fountain). Your creative work is never held hostage to a subscription. You may cancel at any time and take every file you have created.
If FilmScriptWriter ever shuts down, we commit to providing at least 90 days' notice, keeping export functionality active for the full duration of that notice period, and providing a bulk download option for all your projects. Your creative work will not disappear because a business did.
No lock-in. We use and export to open, industry-standard formats wherever possible precisely so your work remains portable and useful outside this platform.
You agree to use FilmScriptWriter only for lawful creative purposes. The following are prohibited:
Violations may result in account suspension. We will always make reasonable attempts to contact you before taking action, except in cases of security risk.
FilmScriptWriter is operated by Saurabh Garg, an individual based in India. These terms are governed by Indian law. However, we recognise that writers using this platform have rights under their own national frameworks — and we will honour the highest applicable standard.
Any dispute arising from these terms will first be referred to good-faith mediation. We will never initiate legal action against a writer for good-faith use of the platform.
We will notify you by email at least 30 days before any material change to these terms takes effect. A "material change" includes any modification to the IP, AI, or data sections of this agreement. You will always have the opportunity to export your work and close your account before any change you disagree with comes into force. Your continued use of the platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
We will never retroactively change how previously created scripts are handled. If we update our AI or data policies, those changes apply only to content created after the effective date — never to work you created under previous terms.
